Does It Daiquiri?
Colors of Rum DOK Oloroso
DOK is a legendary high-ester rum marque produced by Hampden Estate in Jamaica. Historically, this rum was never intended for human consumption per se, but rather was (and is) exported for use in the perfume industry and, in more recent years, for use in minute quantities as a flavoring agent in rum blends. Rum nerds being what they are, a demand grew for the opportunity to taste this infamous funk bomb and independent bottlers responded with occasional limited edition releases. The Colors of Rum is an independent European bottler that has made waves with an array of interesting and provocative releases. Their interpretation of DOK is bottled at a (relatively) restrained 63.4% ABV and aged nine months in a sherry cask. These factors, reportedly, tame this beast of a rum somewhat so that I doesn't automatically blow the back of one's head off. I was able to obtain my sample at an Austin Rum Society rum swap and tasting. Because Austin rum lovers are cool like that. But does it daiquiri?
