So what happened with Swizzle? Its Web site doesn’t have any news on what happened.

Confluence of a bunch of things. Winter was really slow for them causing cashflow problems. That strip of Greenville has really high rent and they've had chronic electrical and plumbing issues that've been relentless. It's an old building. They took stock of where business was and the challenges they'd face if they continued the lease and decided it made more sense to close the storefront. Jen and Marty are continuing Dallas Tiki Week next year and already have some pop-ups planned at Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans and elsewhere in Dallas the rest of this year. Hopefully they'll get another brick and mortar location in a few years. They're certainly beloved and while I have great affection for Four Kahunas and Tarantula, I don't think many disagree that Swizzle was the best tiki bar in the metroplex.

Thank you. I know parking was a nightmare, too. (The last four times I’ve tried to take Sarah there, the parking situation around Swizzle was impossible, with valets taking over disabled parking. I thought things were bad in the late Eighties/early Nineties with valets taking every available spot between there and Mockingbird, but this was a whole new level.)

Oh yeah, parking was abysmal. Lisa and I arrived an hour early and had to circle the block several times before finding a space. That certainly didn’t help.

The Uber drivers are the worst part, and I can't blame them in the slightest. The last time we tried to get to Swizzle, Greenville was nearly impassable with Uber drivers, most of whom were waiting for their customers to get out of the bars and get in the cars. I'm firmly in favor of Uber customers being fitted with shock collars so they're reminded that (a) the car is THERE and (b) no, there's not time for three more drinks before they have to go outside.
