I've been curious to try Ron Del Barrilito 3 Star for a while now, and thanks to my buddy Walter, I now have a bottle! Ron Del Barrilito 3 Star is an interesting Puerto Rican rum. It is a molasses-based rum produced by a column still, with a portion of the distillate macerated with fruit for an extended period before being blended back into the main batch. The blended rum is aged 6-10 years in ex-Oloroso sherry barrels--this isn't a sherry finish, mind you, this is full-on sherry aging. Puerto Rican rums are known for being crisp and straighforward expressions, but I suspect this one will break from that norm. But does it daiquiri? Watch and see!
